Stylized first aid kit isolated on white background

Yesterday stated out like any other Monday holiday. However by the afternoon, an emergency would change my plans.

The plan was to do some cleaning and some web work, unfortunately, I smelled smoke & it was nearby.

Due to my health history, I did not want to “hang out” and see where the smoke was coming from, so I bolted.

When I got settled and the other destination, I did a mental checklist.

  1. Do I have a place to go to in case of an emergency?
  2. Are my ICE (In Case of Emergency) numbers in place on my cellphone.
  3. Are my files backed up?
  4. Do I have insurance (homeowners or rental, Business and Medical)?
  5. Do I have a plan to grab the most important things I need?

Of course, one should not have to wait until they smell smoke to think about these things.

Most folks would say when the time changes (which is soon) is a good time to review emergency and evacuation plans.

It’s always nice when a long weekend comes along. This gives me the time to organize, clean and fix things.

This weekend its all about manuals.

How many times have you received a new gadget, toy, device,  or electronics item? You may have used the manual in the beginning, but what happens months or years from now? What happens when something goes awry and you need to find that one manual to figure it out?

Sure you can go online and try to find it, provided that:

  • You have the right model number
  • That the manufacturer is online
  • The age of the product

How to solve this dilemma? Organize the manuals.

A few years ago, I got a few boxes and decided to designate a box for each room. I then put the manuals for each device in the room that they are in. For example, all the computer and technology items are in one box in the office and all the kitchen manuals are in the box in the kitchen.

This way, I can find the manual that is needed without having to go too far to find it.

I recently went on a shopping excursion to “temporarily” escape from the deadlines. At one of my favorite stores, I found Kableflags. I have been though almost every type of plug id system. They have a computer pack, an entertainment pack, and even a DIY pack. We all know everything is going up including electricity and its nice to know what you are unplugging before you unplug it in order to save and be green.
