Folks all around the sphere have declared their independence from Facebook and are going to Google+.
However, before you decided to delete your Facebook account completely, here are a few questions to consider.
- Does everyone of your Facebook contacts have a Google+ account? Probably not. Facebook has made it difficult to export contacts into Google+. If you really want to, there is a way around it. Otherwise, the best thing to do is just ask.
- How are you using Facebook now? I’m using my Facebook profile to keep in touch with mainly friends and family and my Twitter account and Facebook page for business and industry news. As of right now, I have more business contacts than friends on Google+. (Deja vu moment with Facebook over 2 years ago) At this point, it will mainly be another business channel.
- Are you comfortable letting Google see everything? We mastered privacy controls at Facebook, but that’s just Facebook. Google is an actual search engine. Just ponder that. What if that party picture, yeah, THAT one appeared in a Google vanity search even though you just shared it with your BFF(s) in Google+?
- Would folks (friends and family) be comfortable with you not being their friend anymore? I know I wouldn’t be. I would at least require an explanation. I know from experience.
Think twice before you decide to burn a bridge on Facebook, you may not be able to make it back across.
